International success

Although Grasshopper Club Zürich has been successful in international competitions, it has so far failed to win any international titles. The two-time qualification for the UEFA Champions League in 1995/96 and 1996/97 and the victories against renowned clubs such as Real Madrid, Glasgow Rangers, Auxerre and Ajax Amsterdam generated attention and recognition. As a result, sporting value and prestige was gained far beyond the country's borders. In the tradition of Grasshopper Club Zürich, great coaches and players have played significant roles. On the one hand, already established coaches and players were proud to play for GC, while on the other hand, the club offered young talent excellent development opportunities. Many former GC players have been signed by top teams in European football leagues; others hold management or coaching positions in Swiss and international football.
