Grasshopper Club Zurich are pleased to announce the signing of young goalkeeper Justin Hammel. The 21-year-old was most recently the first goalkeeper at Stade Lausanne-Ouchy and has signed a three-year contract with the Zurich club.
The Swiss U21 international goalkeeper grew up in the youth academy of FC Basel 1893. In 2020, he moved to Stade Lausanne-Ouchy and joined the squad as third goalkeeper. After only a few months, he was promoted to number 1 and has remained the Romand's regular goalkeeper ever since thanks to his consistently impressive performances.
In the current season, Hammel played 28 games in the Challenge League. He kept 9 clean sheets and made 2 assists in the match against SC Kriens. Now the native of Basel has signed a contract with Grasshopper Club Zurich until 2025, with an option for further 12 months. Hammel will join as second goalkeeper and will thus replace Mateo Matic, who is leaving Grasshopper Club Zürich this summer.
