Central defender Tomás Ribeiro will undergo surgery due to an injury suffered to his left knee. The 22-year-old Portuguese is scheduled to undergo a meniscus operation on Thursday and will thus be out for several weeks.
Ribeiro had suffered an injury to the outer meniscus of his left knee at the start of the second half of the season, which was causing him mild pain. It was initially decided to treat this injury with a conservative therapy. However, since the situation showed little improvement in recent weeks, the doctors together with the player have now decided to resort to surgery, which will be carried out this Thursday in Portugal.
"Since Tomás is constrained by the mild yet constant pain when playing football, after consultation with the coach we have decided for this operation. We are confident that this is the best solution for the player and for the club, which will allow Ribeiro to start preparing for the next season as soon as possible," said chief physiotherapist Zivorad Filic.
Thus, the current season ends prematurely for Tomás Ribeiro. Exactly how long he will be out for can only be determined after the operation.
